“Mum/Dad, I’m going to volunteer in a psychiatric centre” / “Mum/Dad, I’m going to volunteer with blind people”. A chasm separates the reaction to these two cases, not only of protective parents who believe they are doing the best for their children, but also the reaction of a whole society. A society that is hugely ignorant of the true reality surrounding mental illness.
Loneliness, marginalisation, incomprehension, emptiness, sadness, demotivation and fear are some of the words that describe the day-to-day life of a person with a mental illness. We are all responsible for the lack of communication, understanding and affection that these people receive, stigmatised and prejudged due to the misinformation that exists.
We at the foundation want to inspire you to collaborate as volunteers, so that the moment arrives in which people with mental illnesses are helped by other people equal to equal, individual to individual, without fears or barriers.
