Sometimes what hurts most isn’t the illness — it’s the silence
At Fundación Why Not, we support people with mental health issues.
But we don’t do it from a healthcare perspective. We do it from another equally necessary perspective: leisure, free time and real companionship.
Our purpose is simple: to improve quality of life.
Breaking taboos, opening space
Talking about mental health is still difficult. Sometimes it’s scary.
Not only because of how you feel, but because of what others might think. Judgement, criticism, rejection…
That hurts too. A lot.
That’s why many people hide it, minimise it, conceal it. Because they can’t find safe spaces where they can simply be themselves and feel supported.
And the truth is, what hurts the most isn’t always the illness — it’s the loneliness that comes with it.
There’s no pill for that.
That’s where Why Not comes in
We create spaces to say: “I see you, I hear you, and I’m here.”
That’s our mission: to walk alongside, using art, music, movement, conversation, laughter…
To offer places where people can BE and DO again.
Because many stopped doing when they were diagnosed. And, slowly, stopped being too.
A big project born from a small foundation
Why Not stands on two main pillars:
The Txoko
A pioneering, free-access space where a true community is built.
A safe and welcoming place where activities like:
theatre, languages, yoga, reading, art therapy, emotional intelligence, memory games, sports, crafts, karaoke…
have brought people together as one big family.
Why Not Radio
A travelling radio station that has already reached 19 mental health centres.
130 voices. More than 2,100 recorded programmes.
An intimate space, but one that is open to the world, where we transform the concept of madness and move it away from medical language to bring it closer to everyday life.
To the street. To conversation. To the commonplace.
There’s another way to talk about mental health
And that way changes lives.
Why Not no es solo un proyecto. Es un lugar donde volver a respirar.
Donde dejar de ser “un diagnóstico” y volver a ser persona.
